
Welcome young astronauts to Mission Virgin Galactic!
To celebrate Virgin Galactic's pioneering vision in making commercial space tourism a reality. The Royal Aeronautical Society, Virgin Galactic and the RAF have teamed up to create 'Mission Virgin Galactic' - an exciting competition with a once in a life time prize.
The CompetitionThe competition is open to teams of four to six 11-14 year olds (Key Stage 3) who have to design a marketable product that uses elements that have been incorporated into the Virgin Galactic space travel programme. Each team will need a teacher to guide them before they register.Teams will need the following to qualify: - A FOLIO - Containing initial ideas and concepts and a logbook of team activity.
- A PROTOTYPE/MODEL - Of the product (for intricate or high-tech product a basic model accompanied by drawings will suffice.
- PRESENTATION - Of product to a panel of judges (and preparation to answer any questions that the judges might have).
The PrizeThe winning team and its supervisors will be flown out to the Mojave Spaceport in California as guests of Virgin Galactic where they will be given an exclusive tour and a once in a lifetime chance to see a flight of 'SpaceShipTwo'. (Return flights and accommodation are included).
