Outreach, Recruitment & Retention Workstream
The Outreach, Recruitment & Retention Workstream continues to work closely with colleagues in the ICAO Next Generation of Aviation Professionals (NGAP) Outreach Programme. The Workstream has primacy on all matters bearing on pilot outreach and recruitment.
The Chairman is Captain Sanjay Sapra FRAeS, Manager Pilot Training Programmes, Etihad Airways.
Captain Sanjay Sapra is an aviation professional with over 30 years of aviation experience. He is currently a type rating examiner on the A320 and A330 types. Since 2002, he has been involved in airline training in various training and management roles. These roles have provided him with the opportunity to develop and manage pilot training programmes on Airbus, Boeing and Embraer aircraft types. His expertise is in developing non-traditional training curriculums based on Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) and Evidence Based Training (EBT), in an effort to implement the best practices, innovation and excellence in pilot/instructor pilot training and qualification. He has also been involved in developing a Competency based Assessment for pilot and instructor recruitment. Captain Sanjay Sapra is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He holds an MSc degree in Air Transport Management from City University, London and remains actively involved with the Master’s Programme at the University.
The Workstream Vice-Chairman is Capt Suheil Abumariam FRAeS, Manager Advanced Qualification Program, Gulf Air.
Capt Abumariam started his Flying Career in 1979, and has flown Transport category airplanes such as B707, B727, L1011-500, A310, A320 Family, A330, accumulating wide international flying experience and close to 18,000 flying hours. Suheil is a type Rating & simulator Instructor, Senior Examiner designated by Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs (BCAA) on the A320 Family and A330 airplanes. Suheil holds a MSc in Air Transport Management from City University – London, he is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (FRAeS).
Starting with the core SMEs who developed the program in 2004, since 2011 Suheil is the Manager of Advanced Qualifications Program (AQP) at Gulf Air, actively flying on the A-320 and the A-330. Additionally, Suheil Manages all Flight Operations and Training activities related to B787-900 entry into service.
Suheil is a Key proponent of AQP who consider himself an expert in non-traditional training program development, He has been instrumental in the development and implementation of innovative training concepts and programs at Gulf Air, specifically incorporating the Instructional System Design (ISD) methodology in all curriculum design activities in companywide training programs.
