In 2016, the Royal Aeronautical Society celebrates its 150th anniversary and Cool Aeronautics forms an integral part of these celebrations. To mark this occasion, the Society will aim to have Cool Aeronautics events reach 150 schools in 2016; we are particularly keen to engage with schools in disadvantaged areas that may not regularly take part in or be invited to STEM activities/events.
With a theme of ‘150 Years of Aerospace Innovation and Inspirational People’, the Cool Aeronautics events held throughout the year will offer an informative and engaging celebration of the worlds rich aviation heritage as well as look ahead to its exciting future. We have already held a series of successful events around the globe this year with record attendance for the programme, over 1,100 students have participated in events held by Stanstead Airport, Rolls Royce, Bristol University, RAF Halton Heritage Museum and our Dubai and New Zealand Branches to name a few. We have many more exciting events before Christmas and look to extend the legacy of Cool Aeronautics into 2017 and beyond.
Importantly, the success of this initiative will depend upon the collaborative efforts of the Society’s staff, Branches, Corporate Partners and members and we welcome your interest in supporting an event (or two!). To assist your organisation with the planning and running of a Cool Aeronautics event in 2016, the Royal Aeronautical Society has produced the Cool Aeronautics Handbook, available to download here.
