Careers Awareness 

The Ballantyne is the RAeS annual event for 14-18 year-olds which aims to provide an insight into the career pathways in the aerospace and aviation sector with inspiring talks from aerospace and aviation professionals of all ages as well as STEM challenges and competitions.

If you are thinking about career pathways and would like to hear case studies, the latest news and developments and talk to friendly experts from across the aerospace and aviation sector, this is a must event for you to attend!

What to expect?

The day includes:

  • Introduction from RAeS President Elect Sir Stephen Dalton
  • Talks from Raytheon engineering graduates and apprentices about their career pathways
  • Insight into space engineering in the UK with Shefali Sharma of Oxford Space Systems
  • Becoming a pilot
  • Royal Air Force career pathways as it looks to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2018
  • FREE LUNCH for all guests, thanks to the event sponsor Raytheon

We hope to offer your pupils a fun and inspiring day introducing the fantastic variety of career pathways that aerospace and aviation offers and the application of STEM subjects.

Why Ballantyne?

The Ballantyne, the Society’s annual event for secondary pupils aged 14-18 years, is named after Dr Archie Ballantyne, Secretary of the RAeS from 1951-1973, whose key achievements included overseeing the lecture theatre extension in 1966, the Society’s 100th year. Ballantyne was particularly keen interested in young people’s development so it is fitting that nearly 50 years on, the event continues in his name and with this core objective at its heart.
