Building Aerodynamics

10 May 2016

Lecture

Aerodynamics is not just about aviation. In this lecture, Dr. Anton Davies of RWDI Inc., will take us through the fundamentals of aerodynamic stability for tall buildings such as the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. RWDI specialise in wind engineering and microclimate studies for all types of buildings and structures. RWDI build scale-models of buildings and test them in their boundary layer wind tunnels. Local wind loads are assessed for component and cladding design. Aerodynamic stability and structural wind loads are assessed for the design of main wind force resisting systems to mitigate predicted wind-induced motions and other potential issues. This presentation will give an overview of the effects of wind loading and aerodynamics on tall buildings.
