Much of the historic driving force for the global aerospace market has come from OEMs based in the west selling their aircraft to western carriers. This has changed. Asia is driving global GDP and Asian travellers who are increasingly marching up the jetways of the world. This briefing will discuss some the implications of this for the aerospace industry.

Nigel Stein, Chief Executive, GKN plc


Nigel Stein is Chief Executive of GKN plc, the FTSE global engineering business with sales of nearly £10bn in the aerospace and automotive markets. He joined GKN in 1994 and after a number of financial and commercial roles in the Group, including based in the US, was appointed to the Board as Finance Director in Aug 2001.  In 2007, he was appointed Chief Executive Automotive and became Group Chief Executive on 1 Jan 2012.

Prior to GKN he worked for other UK engineering companies: Laird Group, Hestair and Hawker Siddeley.

A graduate of Edinburgh University with an Honours Degree in Engineering Science, he is a Chartered Accountant and Non-Executive Director of Inchcape plc.

Nigel is a Past President of the SMMT, the Trade Association for the UK Auto Industry and Chairman of the Automotive Council, a joint government/industry body promoting a stronger and more competitive UK automotive industry.  Nigel is also a Non-Executive Director of Inchcape plc.
