Norman was appointed Chairman and Managing Director, Leonardo MW Ltd, on 1 September 2016. He is also Divisional Managing Director, Leonardo Airborne & Space Systems, a post he assumed on the formation of the Division in January 2016, and in which he has responsibility for line of business areas with revenues in excess of £2 billion.
In his Divisional MD role, Norman leads an international team based in the UK, Italy and the USA, with a strong domestic and export portfolio in Avionic Equipment & Systems, Airborne Surveillance & ISTAR Solutions, Electronic Warfare, Tactical UAS & Target Drones, Airborne Radar & Advanced Targeting Solutions, Space Sensors, Aircraft Mission & Simulation Solutions and Support Services.
In his position as Chairman and Managing Director, Leonardo MW Ltd, Norman has responsibilities for growth and development of all of Leonardo’s businesses in the UK. He also has responsibility for interaction with UK Government, customers in UK MoD and the Front Line Commands, in the UK Security domains, and with Unions. In the USA, he is a member of the SELEX Galileo Inc. Board of Directors, which operates under SSA guidelines.
Norman’s career developed from finance, IT & project management roles at United Distillers (Diageo). From there he moved to GEC Marconi Marine in 1998, subsequently taking Director level appointments in BAE Systems Marine, moving to Basildon as Group Operations & IT Director in the then BAE Systems Avionics Division. Appointed Director & General Manager Selex SAS Ltd in 2005, Norman was subsequently: Senior Vice President, Radar & Advanced Targeting, SELEX Galileo; UK Chief Business Officer and Group Operations Director, SELEX Galileo; and Managing Director SELEX Galileo Ltd. From 2012 until his current appointments, he was Managing Director Selex ES Ltd.
Norman is a member of the Defence Industries Council and the Defence Suppliers Forum, within the Executive Group of which he has lead responsibility for Research, Technology & Innovation. He is a member of the Defence Growth Partnership Steering Committee, former Chairman of SBAC (now ADS) Scotland, and a Member of Scottish Enterprise Aerospace, Defence and Marine Industry Advisory Board. He is also the Co-Chair of the Committee looking at encouraging Young People into Engineering, under the Sponsorship of HRH The Prince of Wales.
