On Thursday 16 November the RAeS Yeovil Branch is hosting a lecture on the subject of “The AW101 for Norway: Most Advanced SAR Helicopter in the World” by speakers Steve Vellacott, Chief Project Engineer for the AW101, and Mark Goddard, Senior Customer Service Manager, both from Leonardo Helicopters. The poster for the lecture is attached to this email.
The talk will be split between the two speakers area of specialty. Steve will provide an overview of the Norwegian All-Weather Search and Rescue Helicopter (NAWSARH) programme; including a description of the helicopter configuration, development programme, and challenges faced during the programme execution. Mark will discuss the infrastructure that is being established within Norway to support the Search and Rescue operation using the AW101, focusing on the automated connectivity between the aircraft and ground operations, which includes transferring the airworthiness record to an electronic form from the traditional paper logbooks.
The lecture will be held in the Dallas Conference Room 1a/b at the Leonardo Helicopters site in Yeovil. Refreshments will be served at 18:00 with the lecture commencing at 18:30.

Mark Goddard has been at Leonardo for 21 years; from development of the EH101 through to Customer Support. Mark has spent 15 years working with customers to introduce into service the EH and AW101 aircraft, alongside developing the support solutions to enable effective operation.
Steve Vellacott is a mechanical engineer who has been at Leonardo for 35 years; starting initially as an Apprentice and then holding various positions within Engineering, from the design office during the development of the EH101, to the Chief Structural Engineer for the AW159, and now as the Chief Project Engineer for the AW101.
