2018 marks 10 years since the financial crisis. Like other areas of the aviation sector, the business aviation community was significantly impacted. Over the last decade, the sector has grown year on year but total growth worldwide remains below 2008 levels. Uncertainty over Brexit, security concerns and rising tensions in various regions around the globe could affect growth rates and the potential socio-economic contribution over the next 10 years.
As a sector providing thousands of jobs across the UK and Europe and generating near €100bn to Europe alone, the Society believes that public policy and decision makers should be better prepared to understand the national benefits of the sector, understand the challenges to growth and hear what intervention could help the sector flourish over the next decade or more.
In July 2017, the UK Government published for consultation its draft Aviation Strategy – Beyond the Horizon: The Future of UK Aviation – that aims to set out a long-term vision for UK aviation to 2050 and beyond. The Government are keen to hear from the aviation sector to get the final Strategy right when they publish at the end of 2018. Concurrently, the new All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on General Aviation (GA), recently set up to promote the GA sector (including business aviation) sector in Parliament.
This Society event will pull together two panels of senior individuals from across the business aviation sector and wider industry to explore the trends, changing regulations and needs of future generations that will help this sector grow, capturing the outcomes of the events in order to inform the Government Aviation Strategy and support the work of the APPG GA.
