What are Weapon Systems?
The Weapons Systems and Technology (WST) Group covers all aspects of air, ground and sea launched weapons systems. It examines the design and development of individual components and their integration into working systems and covers aerodynamics, avionics, propulsion, guidance, armament and evasion systems
The General Aviation Group aims to:
- Promote the understanding of and interest in Weapon Systems and Weapon Systems Technologies by means of public and classified lectures, symposia, conferences and workshops.
- Recognise the many technical disciplines contributing to the field of Weapon Systems, including aerodynamics, guidance, navigation, control, sensing, propulsion, lethal mechanisms, information technology, systems engineering, systems integration, communications, operational analysis and concept studies.
- Encourage contact and liaison between the Weapon Systems and Technology Group and other related fields, such as Air Power, Space, Avionics, Flight Simulation, Aerodynamics, Un-Manned Systems and Management Studies.
- Provide a forum for the various industrial members, academia, the Ministry of Defence, the armed forces and government agencies to discuss technical research, concept development and new systems.
To support future generations of aerospace practitioners through close links with universities and other educational establishments.
The WST group coordinate a number of events per year, including conferences across the UK addressing the key issues facing the weapon systems and technology arena. The Group also run regular lectures as well as providing key speakers as other Specialist Group events.
