Aerospace/Aviation Programmes (Non-Engineering)
The Society wishes to recognise and promote academic programmes that are considered to be of significant value and appropriate learning for those seeking to pursue a career in aerospace / aviation / aeronautics.
Approval of programmes by the Society has been developed in response to the need to provide independent peer review of programmes not generally monitored by any other professional body. The Society is able to draw on expert input from suitably qualified academics from all relevant academic disciplines as well as professionals from all sectors of the aerospace industry. Within the current quality assurance regime operated by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), professional and statutory accreditation is recognised as an important way of demonstrating that the programmes concerned are likely to meet QAA standards. The rigour of the process operated by the Society is well recognised, given the long experience of conferring recognition in the case of engineering and technology, and surveys of academics have attested to the marketing advantage that approval provides, both in the UK and overseas.
For guidance notes and application forms for universities seeking course approval, please see the Approval for Academic Aerospace/Aviation Programmes Handbook. The application form and additional information can be found in the document.
The Society charges a nominal fee to offset the cost of course Approval visits for universities that are not members of its Corporate Partner Scheme.
