Airbus has reported a one-third slump in operating profits due to continuing Pratt & Whitney engine delivery issues for its A320neo.

Operating profits for the second quarter were down 27% to $1bn. The manufacturer delivered 239 A320s in the first half of 2017, but only 59 of these were neos, and just 16 the P&W GTF powered version. Reports of P&W-powered A320neo reliability issues at GoAir and IndiGo too meant that Airbus is pressing P&W to implement changes to its engine. Meanwhile the airframer also revealed that it is to slow delivery rates of its slow-selling A380 to just eight in 2019, down from a previously announced 12 in 2018.
