It has been reported that a UK test failure of an operational Trident missile was suppressed prior to a vital Parliamentary vote on renewing the nuclear deterrent.

The failed test, reported by The Sunday Times, took place last year and saw an unarmed Trident II D5 missile having to be destroyed by remote control after it veered off course after being launched by the submarine HMS Vengeance off the coast of Florida. The test was the first failure of Trident missile in 161 successful test launches by the US and UK. There are now calls that the Defence Secretary, Sir Michael Fallon to face the Commons about alleged cover-up of the test failure.
