In a regulatory filing on 27 July Boeing say that it may cease production of its 747 as the four-engine Jumbo Jet battles falling sales.

The company says it will slow production of the icon 747 to six aircraft a year, beginning in September, after delivering more than 1,500 since 1970. Meanwhile, Boeing reported its first 2Q loss since 2009 – but shares rose after it was smaller than expected. The previous week, the company announced pre-tax charges of $3bn related to 747, KC-46 and 787 development.
