Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad has posted a huge $1.87bn loss for 2016 – the first profit drop in five years.

This compares with a $103m profit the previous year. The carrier blames the loss on a $1.06 charge caused by writing down aircraft values and a $808m loss from stakes in other airline partners, including Air Berlin and Alitalia.
