A Lufthansa Airbus A340-300 long-haul airliner was heavily damaged on the 11 June after a tow truck at Germany’s Frankfurt Airport caught fire underneath it.
The aircraft was being moved, readying to be used as Flight LH426 to Philadelphia. The flight was scheduled in the afternoon, so no disruption was caused to normal flight service.
The German-based airline stated that the aircraft was empty, but ten people were taken to hospital due to smoke inhalation.
A Lufthansa spokesman stated that the aircraft was to be checked for any major damage. The aircraft (registration: D-AIFA) was delivered in 2000, and due to its age and the nature of the damage its more likely to be scrapped rather than be repaired.
