The US Navy has revealed that up to over half of its aircraft and up to two-thirds of its strike fighters are currently grounded either for regular maintenance or because current budgets are insufficient to repair them.

According to the USN, around 1,700 helicopters, patrol, transport and combat aircraft are not flying while 27% of F/A-18s are out of service due to major depot work; with a further 35% awaiting maintenance or parts.
