The Royal Aeronautical Society Banquet continues to grow year on year, this year attracting 570 guests representing close to 200 companies and organisations from across the aerospace community. Hosted on Tuesday 19 May in the luxurious settings of the InterContinental London Park Lane, this event provided an excellent opportunity for relaxed networking at a prestigious social occasion.
In his after-dinner speech, Sir Michael Marshall, Chairman, Marshall of Cambridge (Holdings) Ltd, provided a brief history of his family company, a business that started as a flying school in a field behind his Grandfather’s house, before moving to the land that is now Cambridge Airport where they trained 20,000 pilots and aircrew and repaired over 5,000 aircraft during World War II. From the outset the foundations of Marshalls have been grounded in its apprentice and training schemes, with 100 motor and aerospace apprentices on their books at any one time. Today their successful AeroAcademy provides degree qualifications linked to Kingston University and their LaunchPad programme sends young ambassadors into local schools to show children, parents and teachers the opportunities of a career in engineering.
