The Royal Aeronautical Society’s Honours, Medals and Awards are the most prestigious and long-standing awards in global aerospace, honouring achievement, innovation and excellence.

The deadline of 31 March 2015 is approaching for submitting a nomination for the 2015 awards.  Anyone can offer a nomination for any individuals and/or teams working in any area of aerospace, anywhere in the world. The only requirement is that the individual or team nominated is felt to have made a clear contribution to the field of aerospace art, science and/or engineering which merits recognition by the Society. An award can add invaluable recognition and kudos for an individual or team helping to foster inspiration and talent among employees and employers alike.

The A350 XWB Wing Major Test Support Team - winners of the Society Team Bronze award – recounted their experience, in particular their joy at finding out they had won:

“It was amazing news to hear that we had won the Bronze award for teamwork. I felt that this was tremendous recognition for the team who had put such efforts in to realise the major tests. The whole project was an amazing learning experience for us all and showed what we could achieve with the right attitude and support across disciplines and countries.”

-- Matt Bourne, Head of A350-900 Wing Engineering Major Test, Airbus.

They received their award at the Society’s prestigious annual Wilbur and Orville Wright Lecture on 11 December:

“Attending the ceremony at Hamilton Place was exciting and inspiring for the representatives of the overall team, as we don’t usually have the opportunity to visit London for work-related activities. It was an honour to meet President Bill Tyack in person and mingle with the other distinguished guests from around the industry. As we represented Airbus in the UK, we were also given a tour of the recently renovated Airbus Business Suite (see photo below), which looks fantastic! I am sure that any award winner would feel recognised and honoured to be a part of the process!”

-- Shumit Das, Stress Lead for A350 ES Wings, Airbus.
