A new study from Swiss Bank UBS claims that the introduction of pilotless airliners could improve safety and save airlines up to $35bn per year from reduced operating and training costs, lower fuel expenditures and insurance premiums.

However, 54% of a survey of 8,000 people said they would be ‘reluctant’ to take a pilotless flight with only 17% saying they would ‘welcome the opportunity’.
