The US Air Force is inviting bids to replace the Northrop Grumman E-8C JSTARS Boeing 707 platform ground surveillance fleet with 17 aircraft based on business jet platforms.

The USAF issued the final draft of the request for proposals (RFP) on 28 December to a number of bidding contenders. Boeing is offering a 737-700, Northrop Grumman a Gulfstream G550 and Lockheed Martin a Bombardier Global 6000. In addition to the aircraft, the $6.9bn contract includes the provision of surveillance radars, communications systems and battle management command and control suites.
